DIRTY DOWN
is a translucent, water soluble spray dye that makes surfaces look dirty and old (or aged). Dirty Down is an ozone friendly solvent based spray.
WHAT CAN DIRTY DOWN BE USED ON
Apply to almost anything, including most fabrics, plastics, timbers, boards, paper, card, leather, furniture, metal, painted surfaces, plaster, brickwork, stone, glass, mirrors and more.
WHAT DOES DIRTY DOWN LOOK LIKE
Dirty Down looks different if sprayed on non-absorbent or absorbent surfaces – see below.
NON-ABSORBENT SURFACES
Non-absorbent surfaces such as plastic will not usually absorb Dirty Down. A fine spray will form a dry coating on a surface which can usually be smudged or wiped using a damp cloth (wetted with just water). Smudging removes some of the spray creating a patchy effect, more like real dirt - the wetter the cloth the more Dirty Down will be removed. Only spray light coats on non-absorbent surfaces otherwise a puddle will form and dry to a silky finish.
ABSORBENT SURFACES
Absorbent surfaces such as fabric, bare timber and card will usually absorb Dirty Down creating the appearance of a stain, especially if sprayed heavily. The dye in the spray will be absorbed into the material which cannot usually be removed (see instructions for use below). If sprayed lightly, Dirty Down will tend to rest on a surface as a dry powdery coating which can then be spread using a dry or wet cloth. Absorbent leather can be aged by spraying with Dirty Down, then aggressively rubbing each coat using a dry cloth - the more coats, the greater the effect.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
Dirty Down is not always removed by washing and can cause permanent discolouration, so please test before use. Practice spraying on an off-cut before final use and always test on hidden surfaces or off-cuts to ensure compatibility and adhesion. Use sparingly, apply several light coats rather than one heavy coat. The colour will vary depending on the number and thickness of coats applied. Ensure surfaces are dry and free of grease. Mask areas that are not to be sprayed and protect surrounding areas. Shake can well before use and often while spraying. For an even spray finish, hold the can in an upright position 300mm from a surface and spray evenly moving the can from side to side keeping button fully depressed. For an uneven finish, spray as above but unevenly by concentrating the spray in some areas more than others. Spots of concentrated dye may appear if the button is only partially depressed. Heavy spraying may result in the dye dripping or puddling and the colour may transfer on to the surfaces it comes into contact with. Dirty Down may not adhere to some very highly polished surfaces. Drying time is usually less than a minute. Dirty Down is not a toy. Please wear a good quality carbon filter face mask when spraying and always spray in well ventilated areas.
CAUTION EXTREMELY FLAMMABLE
Dirty Down is in a pressurised container. Protect from sunlight and do not expose to temperatures exceeding 50°C. Do not pierce or burn, even after use. Do not spray onto naked flame or any incandescent material. Keep away from sources of ignition - No smoking. Keep out of reach of children. Do not breathe vapour/ spray. Avoid all contact with skin and eyes. Use only in well ventilated areas.
